Skateboarding came to prominence in the UK in the 1970’s primarily because of the growth in the ‘craze’ which originated in California.

Fast forward to today and according to 2020 figures there are now more than 750,000 people who regularly take part in skateboarding in the UK. In fact, such is its popularity that it is due to make its Olympic debut at the Arisaka Urban Sports Park in Tokyo in the summer of 2021.

Skateparks are incredibly popular venues and here at Lightmain we have many years’ experience in building them from the absolute best materials.

One of those materials is ‘Skatelite’ which is an incredibly durable material made from paper and used on the surface of skate ramps and riding surfaces used by skateboarders and BMX riders. All paper is either recycled waste or sustainably harvested FSC® Certified paper.

In use for over 70 years Skatelite is the same solid paper composite material used by the aerospace, marine and A&D industries and it can be used in its raw state or it can be painted, custom printed and even customised with vinyl stickers.

You can find these fast hard wearing ramp surfaces in some of the world’s biggest competitions like the X-Games, Dew Tour and as previously mentioned, the 2021 Olympics.

Skatelite is weatherproof, virtually indestructible and gives riders the perfect balance of speed and grip unlike any other surface.

Skatelite is the material of choice for park managers, planners, builders and athletes because of its smooth riding surface, low maintenance and long lifespan. It is a premium ramp surface needing no sanding or sealing and can be used all year round.
